For the past couple of decades, Robert Morris Basketball was one of the better programs in the Northeast Conference. A number of 20+ win seasons and multiple trips to the NCAA Tournament under head coach Andrew Toole had the Colonials as a perennial contender in league play up to 2020, where the athletics moved up to the Horizon League as the 11th member.

RMU’s inaugural season was in the midst of a pandemic, which like many teams, decimated their campaign last year. As a team, the Colonials went 4-15 overall, including 3-12 in league play to finish dead last in the Horizon League. To their credit, the team was more competitive than their record suggests, playing in five overtime games last season (1-4 record in those games).

There were some bright spots for Robert Morris, including AJ Bramah showing out in 10 games, averaging over 21 points and 10 rebounds a game before leaving the team midway through. Freshman Kam Farris was a starter last season as well and showed high potential as well. He opted to return for another year, while Bramah and several others in the rotation entered the transfer portal and left the program.

The good news is that Coach Toole and the staff were aggressive in the transfer portal themselves, adding eight newcomers to the roster, including a couple from the high-majors. The Colonials are hoping that this new collection of talent will be good enough to make waves in the Horizon League and allow them to reintroduce themselves to their relatively new peers.

So what’s in store for Robert Morris this time around? Here’s a collective 2021-22 preview for the Colonials, including a look at the roster, schedule, and overall outlook.
