Getting to know who plays where

With the transfer of the entire frontcourt (Valley second-teamer Jake LaRavia transferred to Wake Forest), this is a roster in flux and injuries are slowing the team’s development. Highly regarded freshman guard Quimari Peterson has been hobbled by a bad ankle. The all-state, 1,000 point scorer from Gary, Indiana is a player that comes with great expectations.

Two other players that came from LMU, Xavier Bledson and Simon Wilbar have been invaluable at communicating the coach’s vision, but the 6’11 Wilbar has been out with an injured hand. Bledson averaged 10.5 points and five rebounds on last year’s Railsplitters team. Wilbar appeared in only twelve games.

There are no Sycamore returners that played significant minutes last season.

Schertz expects great things from freshman guard Cam Crawford. The 6’5 Alabama native was a prolific three-point shooter in high school and led his team to the class 7A final four. Junior college transfer Micah Thomas could be rejoining the team very soon. He is another talented guard but was arrested in early October in a domestic dispute. His prosecution has been deferred to April and has resumed limited team activities.

Oregon State transfer Dearon Tucker could play a big role on this year’s team. Tucker played in 29 games for Oregon State’s Elite Eight team. The 6’10 center played just under ten minutes per game and scored 2.7 points per contest. The 240-pound sophomore was a three-star player coming out of Legacy Early College High School in 2019.
