Schedule

Nebraska has struggled immensely with power five opponents under Hoiberg, and it is usually because they are overmatched and talent deficient. This year the gap has shrunk but the Huskers still have some noticeable flaws, but their schedule is favorable in the early part of the season and should lead to some winnable games and a chance for some quality wins.

The first seven games are in Lincoln and they are all games that Nebraska can win. They have a nice mix of teams who are going to be decent mid-majors and the annual matchup with Creighton, which is always a huge game regardless of how good or bad each team is.

After the first seven games, the Huskers finally go on the road for a matchup against NC State in the ACC Big Ten challenge. That will be the first road game and it will be a good test for Nebraska as it will be their first game against a likely NCAA tournament team. They have four games against potential tournament teams in a row.

After NC State they start Big Ten play with Michigan in Lincoln and Indiana in Bloomington. They then go and play a likely ranked Auburn team in Atlanta as part of the ESPN Holiday Hoopsgiving event. After that Nebraska returns home to play to more non-conference games against Kansas State and Kennesaw State before beginning Big Ten play.

The Big Ten schedule is always going to be tough every year regardless of how good Nebraska is. The Huskers play Michigan, Indiana, Northwestern, Iowa, and Wisconsin twice this year and they have games at Ohio State and at Penn State. The rest of the Big Ten opponents are in Lincoln.

Nebraska is likely going to be better this year in the league. If they can get hot and win some games this schedule could give them some nice quality wins to add to the resume and potentially find themselves on the bubble. The schedule also leads to a year like the last couple have been and that would be the worst-case scenario.
