Season outlook

Steve Forbes deserves as much time as he needs to turn this moribund program around. But it’s hard to see Wake Forest making too much progress this year, at least on the court.

Daivien Williamson should emerge as more of a household name and Carter Whitt should benefit from an offseason with the program. It’s also good to get a number of transfers from high-level programs, even if they aren’t all major movers and shakers.

But there aren’t really any stars on the roster, anyone who can single-handedly help propel the team to wins. And the sum of it all isn’t much greater than their parts, either. It could be a long season for the Demon Deacons.

Some improvement in the win total can be expected for the Demon Deacons – it’s the normal course for a second-year coach. But this team is not leaping into a higher tier in the ACC, even if the team reaches double-digit wins through a favorable non-conference schedule.

The bottom of the ACC is comprised of Wake Forest, Boston College, Pittsburgh, and arguably Miami (maybe Georgia Tech too). The Demon Deacons are firmly locked in that tier and a postseason berth this season would be a surprise.
