Liberty Basketball: 2021-22 season preview and outlook for Flames
By William Cash
Schedule Outlook
Like most mid-major programs in college basketball, the non-conference is the hardest part of their schedule. The Flames open up with Regents University which should be a comfortable victory. After that, Liberty will travel to Baton Rouge to play LSU. Then the Flames will travel to Orlando to take on Rick Pitino and Iona in the MAAC/A-Sun challenge. These two games will be big measuring stick to see how good the Flames are.
Liberty will then play their second SEC opponent, taking on Missouri in Lynchburg on Dec. 2. The Tigers are coming off an NCAA Tournament berth last season and will be another tough test for the Flames.
Then on December 12th, the Flames will take on Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, TX. Then will travel to take on East Carolina in the Basketball Hall of Fame Shootout.
Liberty will finally travel to Hawaii for the Hawaiian Airline Diamond Head Classic. The Flames will open up in the first round against Northern Iowa with the potential to play Stanford, BYU, or Vanderbilt.
After the non-conference schedule is over, Liberty will open up A-Sun play against Stetson on January 4th. Among important A-Sun games, Liberty will play Bellarmine on February 3rd and pre-season poll runner up Eastern Kentucky on February 5th.
Liberty closes the regular season against Kennesaw State on February 26th, followed by the A-Sun Tournament that lasts from March 1st to March 8th.
