Maryland Basketball: 3 takeaways from Terrapins win against George Washington

Strong rebounding
One of the areas last year that the Terp’s suffered in was rebounding and in particular offensive rebounding. Last year’s team was for the most part undermanned and lacked a big man and size to pound the boards with the big boys of the Big 10, thus was a big part of their issues, but that has changed this season.
With the addition of Wahab, it finally gives Maryland that big man with size who can pound the boards and also allow others to help in the rebounding department, as having a big man also allows players to play in their natural position this season, such as Donta Scott. Last night’s rebounding was at a premium and was one of the big reasons the Terp’s survived a scare against GW.
Wahab pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds and Donta Scott also got in on the action as he grabbed 10 boards for his 6th game in his career with double-digit rebounds. Maryland was plus ten in rebound margin as the Terp’s had 48 total rebounds to GW’s 38. Maryland was also plus 7 in the offensive rebounding department 17-10, which lead to 17 second-chance points. Winning the rebounding war, also helped the Terp’s to get 19 fast breakpoints, which in the end was one of the reasons that contributed to the Terp’s victory.
