Maryland Basketball: 3 takeaways from Terrapins win against George Washington

Coming up clutch on defense
Let’s face it, if you are a Terps fan, we all agree that offensively and other than Wahab, it was a pretty bad performance. They were getting some good looks, but the ball was just not falling for them, for most of the game, as Maryland shot 38% from the field going 24-64 and 3-20 three-pointers. GW was not much better as they shot 41% from the field 27-66 and was 4-17 from the three-point range. The thing that won that game for the Terp’s was defense.
Offensively, the Terp’s could do no right, although they did score when they needed to score, the key to victory was that Maryland defense. When the defensive intensity was turned up to all systems go, the Terp’s looked really good, as the defense creates offense, which is a good thing that the Terp’s can do very well.
A great example of how that defense won that game, was at the end of the first half. GW was starting to get some momentum towards the end of the half and then the defense turned up the heat and closed the gap to one at halftime with GW leading 30-29.
To start the second half the Terp’s started right where they left off defensively in the first half, as the Terp’s employed a press to start of the second half and ignited the Terp’s to an 8-0 run and they would never give up the lead.
