The SEC

It has been only a week and this is in no way saying the SEC is the best conference in basketball or will be until March, but the takeaway after one week of games is exactly that. Or the SEC could just be the best at scheduling cupcake games as they prepare for the conference schedule to begin in December.

The SEC has a cumulative record of 19-2 with every team except Alabama having a negative SOS,  yet they have held court with the only missteps being committed by Kentucky and South Carolina. Kentucky’s loss is the highest profiled as they lost to the ACC’s Duke, but one team does not make a conference.

With five teams in the AP Preseason Poll – tied for most – from top to bottom the SEC has shown to be the best. Whether it be Alabama’s 98 points per game average versus Louisiana Tech and South Dakota State to Vanderbilt’s 19 point victory over Alabama State and even Georgia’s seven-point victory over Florida International.

Nobody is suggesting that South Carolina will be defeating Villanova, UCLA, or Gonzaga anytime in the near future, but when we take something away after one week and the conferences are compared top to bottom the SEC is the best conference in the nation.
