Ranking the freshman seasons of former number one high school recruits: 13. Andrew Wiggins
Freshman stats: 17.1 ppg, 5.9 rpg
Whenever Andrew Wiggins took the floor during a high school basketball game, observers had to pick their jaws up off the ground. Wiggins was a highlight reel just waiting to happen. During his senior year in high school, he dropped 23.4 points a game to go along with 11.2 rebounds while swatting 2.6 shots a night.
Wiggins made constant appearances on Sports Center thanks to his athleticism.
On the next level, Wiggins was expected to take the Kansas Jay Hawks to near unbeatable status. Yet, during the 2013-14 season, Wiggins and company racked up the Ls. On the year, they finished with a record of 25-10.
To his credit though, Wiggins made a number of teams including All-Big 12 and All-Big 12 Tourney thanks to his 17.1 points and 5.9 rebounds. The problem for Wiggins was, at times, he seemed to disappear. Kansas would get blown off the floor on occasion and Wiggins would finish the game with 20 points but you just wouldn’t know it.
To make matters worst, Wiggins was outshined by fellow freshman Joel Embiid plenty of times during the season. The numbers for Wiggins were pretty good but the impact left many scratching their heads.
