Ranking the freshman seasons of former number one high school recruits
Ranking the freshman seasons of former number one high school recruits: 7. Anthony Davis
Freshman stats: 14.2 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 4.7 bpg
Anthony Davis was pretty lucky to have been ranked as the best high school player in the world in 2011. It isn’t because he wasn’t talented because he clearly was. But, Davis was stuck on a mediocre ball club.
Perspective Charter high school was about as terrible as you can get. Despite Davis averaging 32 points, 22 rebounds, and seven blocks, they finished the year with a 6-19 record.
It was clear that Davis was surrounded by players who had no business being on a basketball court. But, regardless of the dysfunction, Davis found himself at the top of the charts and made his way to the University of Kentucky. Once he was there, Davis went on to have one of the best freshman seasons of all time.
We’ll admit, the numbers aren’t incredibly impressive, at least not offensively. Davis averaged a meager 14.2 points per game but he made up for it on defense as grabbed 10.2 boards and blocked 4.7 blocks a game.
Davis was a consensus All-American and was considered the best defensive player in the country. Kentucky rarely lost a game that season, going 38-2. In the process, they won a National Championship.
