Semifinals

The first semifinal is Miami’s chance to take on high-level competition when they take on Kansas. I think this ends up being another easy win for Bill Self’s squad because I’m not sure that the Hurricanes’ guards will be able to do much to contain Martin and Agbaji. I think the Kansas ball handlers will be able to get wherever they want because I don’t think Miami has a physical threat that can intimidate them. Kansas finds its way to the finals with ease.

Prediction: Kansas 81, Miami 70

The other semifinal between Alabama and Drake is one that would get some “oohs” if it were announced on Selection Sunday. Can Drake’s stingy defense do anything to curtail Alabama’s desire to pick up the pace? I really wanted to pick Drake here and I think the game will be really close, but in the end, Nate Oats’ team gets it done thanks to big games from Shackelford and the 7-0 freshman Charles Bediako. Alabama avoids the potholes and reaches the final.

Prediction: Alabama 78, Drake 70

Finals

It’s the Elite Eight in November for the ESPN Events Invitational title with Kansas facing Alabama. This game is about as evenly matched as you can get, No. 4 vs. No. 10, positional battles all over the floor, and two elite coaches.

Picking a winner will be tough and I’m hoping for a multi-overtime thriller, but I am going to say, Keon Ellis, Noah Gurley, and the Crimson Tide pull off the upset in a game that comes down to the final minute.

Prediction: Alabama 78, Kansas 75
