Transferred seniors

As any and every college basketball fan knows, the transfer portal was a busy place over the summer. The NCAA decided to allow all transfers declared by a certain date. this allowed some coaches to almost completely overhaul their roster. A natural by-product of so much change is a lot of uncertainty as players and teams grow together.

As players transferred, they had to adapt to a new position, a new role, or their new role at a new position. A senior transferring is interesting more than any other, as it serves as a litmus test to whether it is difficult to play on a new team after so many years or is his experience enough to handle such a change.

Two seniors who have had a successful transition are Terrell Brown and Jamal Cain. Cain is a 6’7 forward who transferred after playing four seasons and 130 games for Marquette. With Marquette, Cain averaged a career-high 9.6 points per game last season. This season with Oakland Golden Grizzlies, he’s averaging 22.6 points per game and is on pace to eclipse his total points scored at Marquette after one season with Oakland.  In addition, Cain has scored the third-most points among seniors this season.

The player who has accumulated the most points as a senior with 175 over eight games is Terrell Brown of Washington. Brown is only fifteen points away from equaling his total point production from last season with Arizona when he appeared in twenty-six games. Despite ten starts, Brown totaled just 667 minutes, where he was totaled 297 already this season and has already made two more field goals.
