While looking at teams that have been “surprises” or “disappointments”, Boston College would arguably be in the middle position. Based on their schedule, they’ve beaten who they’re supposed to as an ACC program (Dartmouth, Holy Cross, Fairfield, South Florida, Columbia), while losing to teams they were projected to (Rhode Island 2x, Utah).
From a roster standpoint, the Eagles had a lot of role players but no stars. And that has stood up to this point, with sophomore DeMarr Langford leading the way with 12.4 ppg. He’s one of four double-digit scorers on the team, including impact newcomer Junior College transfer Jaeden Zackery (10.9 ppg and 2.5 apg).
This team doesn’t do anything great as expected but has a solid foundation. They don’t take too many three-pointers but is fairly efficient in doing so. They don’t have much interior shot-blocking but forward T.J. Bickerstaff (10.5 ppg and 7.9 rpg) has been very good so far.
Boston College didn’t participate in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and its toughest opponent has been a pair of losses to Rhode Island, which may not bode well once league play begins. But they certainly warrant a high spot than Pittsburgh and have a chance to move up in the rankings once they play power conference competition.
