North Carolina Basketball: Takeaways from Tar Heels thrashing of Michigan
By Ian Mumm
Caleb Love Finally Comfortable
Undoubtedly the best performance against Michigan came from sophomore guard Caleb Love. His 22 points on 9-16 from the floor led all scorers in the contest and matched his best shooting performance of his career with 9-16 at Duke last season.
Through seven games this season, Love has increased his production 53.3% scoring the ball and is at least 14% better across all areas of shooting the ball.
His comfort level is visibly improved and that has translated to making plays on both ends of the floor. Love has already surpassed last season’s mark of 3-games of 18+ points (4 to 3) and has done a better job of getting to the foul line to supplement these numbers. The 10.5 points per game he posted during his freshman season were nothing to scoff at, but the nightly consistency in his performances was not there as they are now.
The boost that provides to the team and his own confidence only helps the long-term potential of North Carolina. If he can continue to perform at this level, there are a lot of teams nationally this team can knock off.
