4. Which of these 4 current disappointments (Oregon, Michigan, Memphis, Florida State), is most likely to still make a run in the NCAA Tournament?

Mauro

I think Michigan still wins enough games to make the NCAA tournament due in large part to the bottom of the Big Ten is terrible!  They are going to be able to rack up enough wins to finish in the top half of the league.  They also have the most talent of any of those teams as well.

Burgess

Well, Memphis is a complete mess and if Michigan doesn’t figure out point guard issues it won’t be them either. I’ll go with Oregon because if they make the tournament they have more overall talent than Florida State.

Michigan makes the run. The Wolverines have arguably the best player of the group in Hunter Dickinson, as well as other pieces such as Eli Brooks, Caleb Houstan, and Moussa Diabate who will be tough matchups for teams. Don’t be surprised if Michigan goes on a run soon as we enter Big Ten play.

Heiser

I’ll stick to my preseason opinions on these four and say that Michigan has the best chance to go on a tournament run just by virtue of being the best team here. Even in their losses, the Wolverines haven’t looked totally abysmal and the same definitely cannot be said for the three other teams in question.

Not to say Michigan hasn’t had their fair share of bad losses, but based on sheer talent I still have at least some hope Juwan Howard and company can right the ship by March.

This is one of those cases where I feel like the right answer is “I don’t know.”  None of these four teams have looked good recently at all, and it’s frustrating – especially for Michigan and Memphis because I think they both have the most talent among these four teams.  I think Memphis has the star-power to go far, but there’s no discipline or leadership on the sidelines – and that’s proving to be deadly.  With that, I’ll have to say Michigan – but it’s going to require DeVante’ Jones to finally come alive and play like he did at Coastal Carolina.

The Wolverines are missing having a reliable point guard like Mike Smith – meaning Jones desperately needs to take the next step and produce at a high level.  If he can do that, then Juwan Howard’s crew should be back within the upper echelons of the basketball world.
