SEC Basketball has had at least six teams ranked in each edition of the AP Top 25 so far this season, the most of any conference in the country. That speaks to the strength of the top of the league, which has arguably as strong a top eight teams as any conference in America. Sure, the bottom has struggled, but that has been the case in every 14 or 15 team conference to start the season—there will inevitably be bad teams at the bottom as conferences continue to grow in size.

The non-conference portion of the schedule has seen SEC teams earn some impressive wins, with Alabama beating Gonzaga and Houston, Tennessee beating UNC, and Florida beating Ohio State, among others.

That said, the league has also taken some less-than-ideal losses, with Georgia losing to Wofford, Vanderbilt losing to Temple, Missouri losing to UMKC, Florida losing to Texas Southern, and South Carolina losing to Coastal Carolina. For the sake of conciseness, I left several notable results off of that list as well.

The ACC and Pac-12 have struggled to start the season. That has not been the case for the SEC as a whole, which is clearly one of the three best leagues in the country and potentially the strongest at the top.

SEC teams are nearing the end of their non-conference schedules, with the exception of the SEC-Big 12 Challenge which will take place on January 29. Conference play approaching presents an ideal time to update our SEC power rankings.
