First off, I’d like to start by saying how wrong I was in my Big East Basketball preseason rankings. It was my first ever attempt and it did not go well. Secondly, I’d like to say, show me someone who got all their preseason rankings right. This is harder than it looks.

The good news is now I have much more useful information from the non-conference slate for each team in the Big East. The bad news, I still probably ranked your team wrong. Apologies in advance.

I’m not alone in saying that the Big East looks like one of the best conferences top to bottom in the country. There is not a lot of separation between teams in the middle of the pack and I think the league has a serious chance to send seven teams to the NCAA tournament.

As of writing this, ahead of the first Big East conference matchup (Villanova vs Creighton, Friday, December 17th), the Big East is an impressive 91-24 on the season. The conference won the Gavitt Games over the Big Ten for the first time since it started and will, at a minimum, break even in the Big East-Big 12 Battle. We’re counting on you Georgetown.

Ten of the eleven teams in the Big East have at least 7 wins.

Only Butler and Georgetown are outside the NET top 100.

All that to say, the Big East is very good. Picking the rankings is likely futile, but here we go.
