Memphis Tigers

Their game against Tennessee was canceled due to covid issues, which made the Tigers’ earlier victory this week against No. 6 Alabama all the more important. It was easily the best performance for the team this season and it broke a brutal four-game losing streak that included losses to Georgia and Murray State.

Unless they defeat Houston in AAC play, this will be the best win on Memphis’ resume on Selection Sunday. Their problem will be the lack of opportunities for Quad 1 victories, now that the Vols aren’t one of them. Don’t be surprised if the Tigers look for a quality opponent in the non-conference but at least they got something for its resume with the win over the Crimson Tide.

Creighton Bluejays

The week didn’t start out great for the Bluejays, falling at home to an underachieving Arizona State squad on Tuesday. However, they redeemed themselves this week with a massive victory over Villanova at home to start out Big East play.

Add this victory along with the one against BYU last week and Creighton has built itself a strong resume heading into January. Considering this team had a complete rebuild last offseason and is led by a number of freshmen, this team now has a top 60 NET ranking and at least one signature victory to boast.

Virginia Tech Hokies

The week started out rough for the Hokies, falling to Dayton on Sunday. However, they were able to rebound in a big way, beating St. Bonaventure by a whopping 37 points on Friday to get a Quad 1 victory. Splitting against the top teams of the Atlantic 10 is no small feat and gives this team another meaningful victory heading into ACC play.

There’s no question that the ACC is down this season, currently projected to get around 3-5 bids to the NCAA Tournament. At this point, Virginia Tech has put itself in the mix for one of those spots and could easily enhance that with road battles against North Carolina and Duke coming up.
