Welcome to this week’s edition of the NCAA Basketball Sunday Mailbag and things sure do look a lot different than they did a week ago. Two weeks ago, the sport was ravaged by the flu virus as many teams were battling the flu and it showed in some sluggish games and some lopsided scores.
This week which is finals week for most of the country has seen the COVID cases start to rise and programs having to shut down due to multiple positive cases within their team. Given the new Omicron Variant and the winter months, we are going to see more Covid shut down’s as the year goes on.
It should be noted as well that there are going to be some schools that are going to close their doors to fans again. Northeastern University was the first to do it and depending upon the outbreaks many more may follow.
This season has already been crazy as no one looks to be a powerhouse this year. Every team has flaws and the gap between the good mid-majors and the good power schools has closed considerably. The tournament resumes are starting to take shape as after Christmas it will be exclusively conference play and that is when the real season starts for a lot of the mid-major schools.
There were only three questions for this week’s mailbag but all of the questions took a lot of extensive research on my part to answer the questions. This week we have questions about a potential player of the year candidate, some power conference power rankings, and an outlook for a coach who has not found much success as of late. Thank you always for your questions.
