Is Fred Hoiberg going to survive this season? – Josh Linke (@TheZagaholic)
I have mentioned this before and feel it needs to be mentioned again. Firing coaches in the middle of the year accomplishes nothing as no team can get a “jump-start” on the coaching search in the middle of the year. In the case of Hoiberg, he is going to be safe for one more season at least. Nebraska lost a lot of money, like every team did, without fans during the Covid 19 pandemic and coach Hoiberg has a very expensive buyout which is going to buy him another season.
This year was supposed to be different for Nebraska right? The Huskers finally had an offseason, and they had a good portion of their roster returning from last year. The thing that was supposed to set this team apart from the rest was the recruiting class. Hoiberg was able to secure his first five-star recruit in program history and he was also able to secure many high-level transfers and another 4-star freshman in Wilhelm Breidenbach. The head coach also led everyone to believe that this team had a ton of shooters and was very capable of shooting from the outside.
Through 11 games, Nebraska has not shot the ball at all and they are a terrible rebounding team. Those are the two main factors as to why the Huskers have been getting beat. They are missing a ton of wide-open looks from deep and they are allowing way too many offensive rebounds. Even though the Huskers are missing shots and that is not so much on the coach especially if they are put in a position to succeed.
Hoiberg is not a great in-game coach and often times he looks lost on the bench. His team looks lost on the court a lot. Part of me thinks that Hoiberg can succeed and the other part of me thinks this will be Nebraska’s last two years for Fred.
