Notre Dame Basketball: 3 takeaways from disappointing loss to Indiana
Not getting enough out of all the starters
Notre Dame is not getting enough out of its starters right now. Dane Goodwin, Blake Wesley, and Paul Atkinson Jr. have been pretty reliable to get to double digits on the season so far but that’s really it right now. Forward Nate Laszewzki and guard Cormac Ryan shots are just not there. Laszewski and Ryan combined for six points against Indiana shooting a disappointing 2-14 from the field.
To be honest I think Laszweski and Ryan try to set their other teammates up more than they should on their end. Notre Dame is going to need these guys to put up numbers night after night if they want to be successful in ACC play this year. Just last year Laszewski seemed to be putting up double digits every game, plus Ryan has the jump shot to get hot as well.
When you only go about seven deep you are relying on your starters to really carry you for the majority of the game. Notre Dame has the three starters who I mentioned earlier playing well right now, but the staff and the players need the other two upperclassmen to start being more consistent and hunting their own shot more often to hopefully get the offense mojo back on the court.
Maybe the last couple of non-conference games before they start ACC play will help and allow the Irish to figure some things out on the offensive end of the floor.
