ACC Basketball power rankings: Wake Forest rises, Virginia slides down

It was a rocky start for the Hurricanes at 4-3 that included a 16-point loss to Dayton. But the team has won five straight since, including an impressive home win over Clemson and beating Penn State on the road in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

It was thought that Miami would be led by the backcourt duo of Isaiah Wong and DePaul transfer Charlie Moore. And to this point, both have been solid, averaging 15.6 ppg and 4.1 rpg and 10.8 ppg and 3.4 apg respectively through 12 games.

But the breakout star of the team has to be Kameron McGusty, who has upped his scoring average to 18.4 ppg and 5.5 rpg. The 6th-year senior has scored at least eight points in every game, including a career-high 29 points against Lipscomb. Even better, the 6’5 guard has gone from an average shooter to an elite one, shooting 50% from the field and 39% from three-point range, both current career-highs.

McGusty, Wong, and Moore are one of the better guard trios in the ACC and help make up for a lack of consistent frontcourt production, although Sam Waardenburg and Anthony Walker have been playing better as of late. This is a team that has a solid floor but not sure if they can be a top 6 team in the conference. Bt if McGusty can continue to shoot at a high clip, anything is possible for them.
