Atlantic 10 Basketball: Davidson rises, St. Bonaventure falls in latest power rankings
12. Fordham Rams (7-5)
Although they did end up losing, Fordham was respectable against both Miami and St. John’s. This team doesn’t have a marquee win yet after the non-conference but the Rams have shown to be competitive overall. Big man Chuba Ohams has been healthy and producing at a high level, averaging 14.5 ppg and a league-leading 11.3 rpg.
The key to the Rams’ success in league play is the continued production from their transfer guards, Antonio Daye Jr. and Darius Quisenberry, who are combining to average 33.9 ppg, 8.4 rpg, and 5.0 apg in the backcourt. They were good scorers at their previous stops and have been good so far but outside of Antrell Charlton, there isn’t much production Fordham can rely on. We’ll see how the increase in competition does for the transfers and Ohams but this is a legit trio to contend with.
11. Saint Joseph’s (6-5)
The Hawks is another team with a quality trio of players, led by stat machine Jordan Hall (16.6 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 6.4 apg) running the show. Forwards Taylor Funk (14.2 ppg and 7.1 rpg) and Ejike Obinna (13.3 ppg and 6.7 rpg) have been very good as well and compared to the last few seasons, the team overall has been much better defensively.
If that continues, St. Joe’s could be a real sleeper in the Atlantic 10. Hall is one of the five best players in the conference and depending on where they finish in the standings, could make a case for A-10 Player of the Year. But like Fordham, the lack of support outside of the “Big 3” could come back to haunt them against better frontcourts.
