ACC Basketball power rankings: Miami soars while Georgia Tech declines
It’s been a good past couple of weeks for ACC Basketball in terms of getting games played, after nearly half the league had to go on pause around the holiday break. This is a conference that can’t afford to lose any games, as the current projected number of NCAA Tournament bids is around 2-4 at the most.
While the overall level of play isn’t very high compared to the SEC, Big 12, Big Ten, and Big East, the ACC still has a ton of teams that are fairly even with one another, which allows for some exciting games. It also means that a lot of mixed results will occur, which makes ranking all 15 teams in this league very difficult.
After several interesting game results of the past week, there have been some changes in my latest ACC Basketball power rankings. And now, there are new teams at both No. 1 and No. 15, as well as in-between.
15. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets – 6-8 (0-4)
In a span of a few weeks, we’ve seen almost all the ACC Basketball schools beat up on one another. One only team is still without a win in league play at that the Yellow Jackets. This week saw them fall to Duke on the road and at home against Notre Dame in overtime, a game they probably should’ve won.
Michael Devoe once again had 20 points in the Fighting Irish matchup, while forward Jordan Usher had 16 points and 14 rebounds. But the lack of a supporting cast once again did them in, leaving Georgia Tech without any answers going forward. Road games at North Carolina and Boston College are up next and it looks like they’ll need 30 from Devoe to win league games.
