Alabama Basketball: 3 keys to pulling off upset win over Kentucky Wildcats
Get JD Davison Involved
As I mentioned earlier, Alabama has beaten five ranked teams so far this season, in three of those five games JD Davison has gone for at least 10 points, while in the other two, he combined for only 10 shot attempts with three against Tennessee, and seven against LSU, while he averaged 7.7 shot attempts in the other three games.
That being said, if the Crimson Tide wants to get the job done against Kentucky on Saturday night, they need to get Davison involved, and more importantly, he has to consistently be making the shots he does take.
On Tuesday night against Auburn, Davison had by far his worst game of the season as he went for zero points on five shot attempts, with four rebounds, and one assist in 24 minutes played. It’s very unlikely for any team to win a game if they have a player in the game for 24 minutes, and he doesn’t score a single point.
The Crimson Tide did a good job of getting Davison the ball and giving him the chance to score, but he simply wasn’t making his shots, and then he stopped shooting the ball and was passing the ball away instead. Davison is an important part of Alabama’s offense, and the Tide needs him to be hitting his shots, in order to knock off the Wildcats.
As a whole, Davison is having a decent season as he averages 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 0.8 steals per game, while also holding a field goal percentage of 47.3%. That being said, he is more than capable of helping the Crimson Tide in big games, after all, he had 20 points against Gonzaga when they played in December, but Tuesday’s game against Auburn was simply not his night.
