Big Ten Basketball: Indiana tumbles, Rutgers storms up in latest power rankings
The Badgers are winners of four of five games, coming off a 77-63 home victory over Michigan. Johnny Davis continues to make his case for Big Ten Basketball and National Player of the Year, scoring a game-high 25 points on 11/17 shooting from the field. But as good as he’s been the supporting cast has also been good, with the four other starters each scoring double figures.
But there was an altercation at the end of the game that involved the head coaches and several players from both teams. While Wisconsin mostly escaped without much punishment, guard Jacobi Neath did get suspended for one game for his actions, which means he’ll be out for the matchup at Minnesota.
Yet the Badgers should be able to win that game without Neath and continue its climb up the seedlings. They’re currently a projected 4 seed per the Selection Committee this past weekend and if they can beat Purdue a week from now, could move up to as high as a two seed. Of course, there’s also the Big Ten regular-season title that’s up for grabs as well.
There will be some who still aren’t believers in Wisconsin when Davis doesn’t go for 25+ but at this point, he seems to be unguardable. This team has enough offense outside of him and enough team defense overall to make a legit run in the NCAA Tournament. And they can start by making a run in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament.
