Texas Tech at TCU: 2021-22 college basketball game preview, TV schedule
The TCU Horned Frogs is on the bubble and has a huge opportunity at a big home win against Texas Tech. Will there be a Big 12 upset in the state of Texas?
TV schedule: Saturday, February 26, 6:00 pm ET.
Arena: Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth. Texas
Depending on which Bracketology you prescribe too, the TCU Horned Frogs (17-9, 6-8 Big 12) are projected anywhere from a 9-11 seed. But for the most part, they’re in the field. Certainly not safe though, coming off a 75-66 loss at Texas earlier in the week. It’s a losing stretch of five of seven games, with the wins coming against West Virginia and Oklahoma State, the two worst teams in the Big 12.
The good news for the Horned Frogs is that by playing in the Big 12, their metrics and overall numbers look fairly desirable. But they’re going to need to beat a team going to the NCAA Tournament soon if they want to get there themselves and before they get back-to-back meetups with Kansas, TCU gets a major chance for a marquee win against No. 9 Texas Tech (22-6, 11-4 Big 12).
The Red Raiders are ranked at their highest point this season, currently on a four-game winning streak. Two of those wins came against Texas and Baylor, with the recent one coming this week in a 66-42 victory over Oklahoma. The fourth game was actually against TCU at home, with the final margin being 82-69. Terrence Shannon Jr. had 20 points off the bench, with 16 from Bryson Williams. Mike Miles had 16 points to lead the Horned Frogs.
Texas Tech has one of the best defenses in the country, all the more potent now that they’re as healthy as they’ve been all season. The Horned Frogs also have a quality defense in their own right but don’t have a ton of size, which is a problem against a “no middle” defense that Coach Adams uses.
But the Horned Frogs did a decent job against it on the road last time and after losing to Texas, needs to get a marquee resume builder before the Big 12 Tournament. The Red Raiders are playing some of its best ball as of late but a slip-up could be due against a desperate team on the bubble.
Prediction: TCU 74, Texas Tech 70
