With the 2022 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament scheduled to begin on Mar. 9, 2022, at Amalie Arena in Tampa Florida, the final handful of regular-season games will go a long way in determining how each team will be placed. Among the four top teams in the SEC, there are just two losses that separate them, with important games such as Kentucky at Arkansas and Auburn at Tennessee still on the horizon.

The SEC is having a quality season as they have the second-ranked RPI among conferences and currently have four teams in the bustingbrackets.com Power Rankings. A quality accomplishment after a 2020-21 season that saw six teams make the NCAA Tournament, but with just Arkansas capturing three victories as Alabama tallied up two.

The NCAA Selection Committee has placed three SEC teams in their “Top 16 Reveal” while the NET has seven SEC teams in the top 50. As week 15 comes to a close, the stock on the SEC is already high and so are a number of its best teams. The one question remaining is ” Which teams will be able to maintain this success into the SEC Tournament and beyond?”

The remaining games on the regular season will sort some of that out and the conference tournament may do so as well, although arguments can be made opposing the importance of conference tournaments.

Questions such as “Does Coach John Callipari play Oscar Tshiebwe 30 plus minutes three days in a row to win a conference tournament?” or ” Does Walker Kessler have the same motivation as Colin Castleton to compete at the highest level less than a week before Round One of the National Tournament knowing Auburn already has a ticket to the dance?”

With one week remaining the focus on the SEC shifts to some of the contenders and whether fans should buy or sell when it comes to LSU Basketball, Auburn Basketball, Arkansas Basketball, and Alabama Basketball.
