Atlantic 10 Basketball: 3 Takeaways from Davidson’s win over St. Louis
By Tyler Cronin
Davidson Basketball advanced to the Atlantic 10 championship game on Saturday with a commanding 84-69 victory over St. Louis. The Wildcats jumped out to a 44-24 halftime lead thanks to 8/13 shooting from three and never looked back.
Foster Loyer led the way with 21 points and Luka Brajkovic threw in a 14 point, 10-rebound, 5 assist triple-nickel. But most impressively, Davidson had a 39-27 edge at St. Louis’ biggest strength, rebounding. They also shut down the Billikens from deep, although a bevy of garbage time makes got St. Louis to 39% on the game.
Although Davidson has made the semifinals of all seven A-10 Tournaments that they’ve played in, this will only be their second appearance in the Championship Game. The Wildcats break a 1-5 drought in this round and will now have a chance to add another trophy to go with their 2018 A-10 Tournament title and this year’s regular-season belt.
This also ends absolutely any doubt surrounding Davidson’s NCAA Tournament hopes. The Wildcats are now 6-4 vs Q1/2, with just 1 Q3 loss below that and a big win over Alabama. So Davidson can now focus on their biggest games, Sunday’s A-10 Championship Game and the NCAA Tournament and there is plenty to take from today’s game as we look ahead.
