Saturday will feature the Kansas Jayhawks looking for their 12th Big 12 Tournament Championship and the Texas Tech Red Raiders looking for their first.

TV Schedule: Saturday, March 12th, 6 pm ET, ESPN.

Arena: T-Mobile Center Kansas City, Missouri

After winning a share of the Big 12 Regular Season title, the Kansas Jayhawks continued their winning ways by picking up two additional victories in a relatively easy fashion.  Aside from the 87-62  “W” they got versus West Virginia and the 75-62 one they got versus TCU, the most important thing is that the Jayhawks remain healthy.

Kansas dominated the scoring in the paint  48-22 versus West Virginia while outscoring the Mountaineers 18-4 in second-chance points. Ohchai Agbaji followed up his 18 point performance by tallying up 22 points in a 75-62 victory over TCU. The Jayhawks once again dominated scoring in the paint, this time to the tune of 42-26, while creating 23 points off of 16 TCU turnovers.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders began their Big 12 Tournament in similarly impressive fashion with a  72-41 victory over Iowa State. The No. 3 seeded Red Raiders were led by Terrance Shannon Jr scoring 15 points as he and all the other starters had limited minutes in the blow-out victory. The Red Raiders dominated the points in the paint. points off turnovers and fastbreak points.  The points and the victory did not come as easily versus an Oklahoma team that had already upset Baylor.

Texas Tech managed a 56-55 victory by limiting Oklahoma to 38 percent shooting from the field as the Sooners shot 67 percent from the free-throw line.  Despite the one-point victory the Red Raiders had fewer points in the paint and points off turnovers as well as second-chance points.

Not only will this game serve as the tie-breaker for the regular season split, but it could also very well propel the winner to a No. 1 seed. Kansas sits on the two-line as Baylor and Auburn sit as a No. 1 seed and Texas Tech is on the three-line with Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Purdue.

Texas Tech owns the Big 12’s best defense and they used that defense to obtain a 75-67 victory on Jan. 8, 2022.  Bryson Williams scored 22 points as the Red Raiders outscored Kansas 44-18 in the paint to counter the 24 points from Ochai Agbaji and 20 by Jalen Wilson.

On Jan.24, 2022, the 16,300 fans in attendance at Allen Fieldhouse were treated to a 94-91 double-overtime victory by the Jayhawks. Agbaji treated the home crowd with a game-high 37 points as Williams paced the Red Raiders with 33 points.

If the Big 12 Tournament Championship game can compare to the double-overtime game, it would be a sensational end to the Big12 season. The conference’s top offense, versus the conference’s top defense. The Red Raiders have to reduce their 15 turnovers per game average if they hope to prevent Kansas from getting easy baskets and perhaps turn the tables as Texas Tech averages the most steals throughout conference play. A big player will have to make a big play in order to win the Big 12 Tournament.

Prediction: Kansas 77 – Texas Tech 73
