After dominating the Atlantic 10 throughout the season, Dayton and Richmond meet again Saturday for an exciting matchup in the semifinals.

Game time: Saturday, March 12, 3:30 p.m. ET
TV schedule: CBS Sports Network
Location: Capital One Arena, Washington, D.C.

The Richmond Spiders (21-12) entered this tournament with the Atlantic 10 championship on their mind. Their six graduate seniors have made it clear they are not ready to walk away from college basketball just yet.

The No. 6 Spiders completed a come-from-behind victory over Rhode Island and most recently defeated in-state rival VCU to advance to the semifinal. Richmond’s veteran leadership really showed in the victory over VCU. Jacob Gilyard had a career-high 32 points and was a key part of the Spiders’ success. Tyler Burton had 14 points, eight rebounds, and shot 50 percent from the three-point range.

Coach Chris Mooney can certainly be happy with his squad that we have had the pleasure of watching into the month of March. Despite being a six-seed, Richmond is showing why they deserve their ticket to the big dance.

Win or loss, the Dayton Flyers (23-9) can walk away from the 2021-22 season with all smiles on their face. They entered this season as one of the youngest teams in college basketball as they currently have eleven freshmen on their roster.

Despite their little experience at the collegiate level, the success was recognized by the rest of the conference and at the national level. The Flyers received two major end-of-season honors as DaRon Holmes II was selected as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and Koby Brea is taking home the Sixth Man of the Year award. The future is certainly bright in Dayton.

Coach Anthony Grant and the No. 2 Flyers have already been put to the test so far in this tournament and that was most recently with a victory over UMass. It was the DaRon Holmes‘ show as he had a career-high of 28 points and shot 80 percent from the field.

With Davidson preparing for the NCAA tournament, the Flyers and Spiders will fight to keep the automatic bid on their radar before the bracket is built on Sunday.
