Throughout this season we may not have realized how good this matchup is between the Davidson Wildcats and Richmond Spiders, however, Sunday we are fortunate enough to witness this battle for the Atlantic 10 championship.

Game time: Sunday, March 13, 1:00 p.m. ET
TV schedule: CBS Sports Network
Location: Capital One Arena, Washington, D.C.

The Davidson Wildcats (27-5) quickly emerged into the team to beat in the Atlantic 10 when conference play started this season. A big reason for Davidson’s success is the depth. The players do a great job of complimenting each other on the court.

The No.1 seeded Wildcats are led by junior Hyunjung Lee who is averaging 16.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and shooting 48.5 percent. Although Lee has been one of the most electric players in the conference, Coach Bob McKillop can be satisfied with the squad in general.

Michigan State transfer Foster Loyer, averaging 16.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and shooting 45.7 percent, has been an outstanding addition for the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year this season.

The player that can not go unnoticed is senior forward Luka Brajkovic. He is averaging 14.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, and shooting 58.7 percent. The Atlantic Player of the Year has led the Wildcats to become one of the most efficient offenses in the nation this season.

In fact, Davidson is 23-1 when hitting 45 percent or more of its shots and averages 48.4 percent shooting from the field. Davidson’s offense very rarely messes up which makes this game Richmond’s toughest test yet.

Although the Spiders lost to the Wildcats 87-84 on January 14th at home, Jacob Gilyard had 28 points and hit five three-pointers.

The Richmond Spiders (22-12) are led by six graduate seniors who have all shown no signs of slowing down in this tournament. They are one of the most experienced teams in college basketball and are hungry for a shot to punch their ticket to the big dance next week.

Despite finishing sixth in the standings entering this tournament, they have arguably the most talented team in the Atlantic 10. Their core of Jacob Gilyard, Tyler Burton, and Grant Golden has been unstoppable all over the court over the last few days and has led the Spiders over Rhode Island, VCU, and Dayton in this tournament.

I believe this will be a close game that will be decided in the final minutes as both teams fight on the biggest stage for their right to compete further into the month of March.
