Anthony Grant

There’s no such thing as a perfect candidate for any head coaching job because that implies that everything is going to be perfect if that coach takes over, and that never happens. There are usually several really good candidates, and we can say without doubt that Grant is a really good candidate for the Florida job.

A native of Miami, Grant began his career as a high school coach in the state before catching on as a collegiate assistant. He spent ten years at Florida on Billy Donovan’s staff, helping build the team that won those titles fifteen years ago. Grant has been a head coach at VCU, Alabama, and Dayton; with his recent success at Dayton over the last five seasons opening a lot of eyes.

A longtime assistant to Donovan, Grant is very familiar with the Florida program and has shown even recently that he can put together a phenomenal team. The one concern is that things didn’t go well in six years as head coach at Alabama, but time has passed and this is a different ballgame for Grant. If the Gators want someone familiar, and someone who saw the very heights of this basketball program, then Grant’s name should be the first they dial.
