Gonzaga Basketball: 3 keys for Round of 64 matchup with Georgia State
By Bryan Mauro
Another year, and another top overall seed for Gonzaga Basketball. Last season heading into the tournament they were undefeated and the overwhelming favorite to cut down the nets. This year they are still the overall favorite to win the title, but the path is going to be a lot harder to make the championship game. The committee did not do Gonzaga any favors in the west region, but when you are the overall one seed it shouldn’t matter who you must play, they should all be games that you should win.
Gonzaga gets it all kicked off on Thursday afternoon from the Moda Center in Portland. Rest assured that the 20,000-seat arena is going to be a very pro-Bulldogs crowd for the duration of the weekend. Spokane is just under a 6-hour drive to Portland and the Gonzaga faithful are going to make that feel like a home game.
The Bulldogs are no stranger to this environment as they are used to the tournament environment and their fans always travel well. The overall number one seed gets to pick the region they prefer so the Bulldogs should have mostly home crowds the entire way.
First, there is a basketball game that Gonzaga must play on Thursday and that game is against the Georgia State Panthers who received the bid from the Sun Belt Conference. The Panthers are one of the better 16 seeds in the tournament and were slightly under seeded.
There are three things that Gonzaga must do to advance to round two on Saturday. Those things are going to be outlined below.
