When it comes to the NCAA Tournament, many casual fans would say that the best part of the whole event is the upsets that occur in the very first round. It happens all the time, as at least one top-four seed bows out in shocking fashion to a small NCAA Basketball school.
It was absolutely crazy a year ago, there were numerous upsets in the Round of 64. 14 seed Abilene Christian defeated 3-seeded Texas, while 13 seed Ohio took out 4 seed Virginia. 13 seed North Texas beating 4 seed Purdue also was notable but nothing prepared fans for No. 15 seed Oral Roberts not only beating No. 2 Ohio State but also beating No. 7 Florida in the Round of 32 two days later.
Will there be the same kind of madness in the first few days? Possibly. There are lots of talented mid-major programs that are led by either a bunch of seniors or former power conference athletes that can match up with some of the higher seeds. And either due to injuries or inconsistent play, some of these top teams are vulnerable to a tough early game and potentially even an upset.
