The NCAA Basketball transfer portal continues to grow, with the latest number of 700 to this portal. The vast majority have been lower-lever mid-major players or primarily bench players from power conference programs. But there have been a few starters and big contributors from NCAA Tournament teams also entering the portal, with the latest being Terrence Shannon Jr.

The 6’6 guard/wing is a former four-star prospect that had an instant impact as a freshman for head coach Chris Beard and Texas Tech. Shannon started 21 games and averaged just under double figures in scoring. But he had his “breakout” campaign as a sophomore, going for 12.9 ppg and 4.0 rpg in-between starting and coming off the bench and shooting 37% from three-point range.

Shannon entered the NBA Draft process last season and with his size and ability to be a “3 and D” guy, there’s definitely a pro future for him. But the overall production hasn’t matched the potential, including this past season. In his defense, Shannon was dealing with injuries to start the 2021-22 campaign and never fully got into a rhythm.

The junior guard finished this season averaging 10.4 ppg on 38% shooting from deep but only was in double figures in 8 of the final 11 games of the season. Shannon had eight points in 35 minutes against Duke in the Sweet 16 loss and entered the transfer portal not even 24 hours later.

Assuming that Shannon doesn’t return to Texas Tech, there will be a number of teams looking for his services. Here’s a look at some of the most realistic options at the moment.
