Kansas Basketball: 3 keys to beating Villanova in 2022 Final Four
1. Keep feeding Remy Martin
The breakout player of the NCAA Tournament doesn’t even start for the Jayhawks. You get the feeling Remy Martin prefers it that way, though.
The senior transfer from Arizona State seemed to be a disappointment through most of the season. He became a different player when he moved to the bench, though, and has become the team’s most electric scorer.
Martin has been almost unstoppable off the bench, averaging 16.8 points per game during the NCAA Tournament. He’s been contributing in other facets of the game as well, averaging 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, all while coming off the bench.
Martin’s performance during the Elite Eight was quieter than his previous Big Dance efforts. He scored only nine points against the Miami Hurricanes, hitting 44.4 percent of his shots. His services weren’t really needed, though, as Kansas won by 26 points.
Based on Martin’s recent run of play, that feels more like an aberration than a trend to look out for in the Final Four. The performance ended a streak of five straight games of scoring in double figures and two straight of scoring at least 20 points.
Kansas has a bunch of scorers, including Martin, Christian Braun, Jalen Wilson, Ogbaji, and David McCormack. Martin has the highest ceiling of all, but getting them all involved could keep the Villanova defense off balance.
Remy Martin just needs to keep doing what he’s been doing all postseason long. So long as he does that, the Kansas Jayhawks should be just fine on Saturday.
