In the new era of the transfer portal, NCAA basketball is evolving and transforming right before our eyes. Less than a week after the completion of the 2021-22 NCAA Basketball season, and even earlier for teams that didn’t make a deep run; the race for each team to improve their roster and increase the chances of making a deep run in the 2023 NCAA Tournament is just beginning.

With the transfer portal becoming more prevalent than ever, it is no secret; teams are trying to reload their rosters with experienced players that have proven they can provide an immediate impact.

Some teams will be looking to completely rebuild via the transfer portal. An example from this past season was Iowa State, as they brought in six new faces from other schools, including five of their top seven scorers. In doing so, the Cyclones were able to complete a remarkable turnaround; advancing to the Sweet 16 just a year removed from a 2-22 season.

Other teams might just be one key piece away from making a tournament run a year from now. Look at the impact that transfers Brady Manek and Remy Martin provided in the National Championship Game and the tournament runs leading up to it for each respective school.

Some of the best talent available in the transfer portal last year came from the mid-major level. Just ask a team like Texas Tech; who added transfers Bryson Williams (UTEP), Kevin Obanor (Oral Roberts), Davion Warren (Hampton), and Adonis Arms (Winthrop), all key contributors to a team that finished 3rd in the vaunted Big 12 and was able to advance to the Sweet 16. This year’s portal is no different, with a substantial list of mid-major stars having already entered their names.

If your favorite team is just one piece away from being a championship-level team, let’s take a look at some of the top mid-major talent that could be headed their way to provide an immediate impact and change the outlook of the 2022-23 college basketball season.
