Colorado State Rams

Although the Rams aren’t as big as the programs that Lofton would target, on paper, the Mountain West team will be just as good as them. They won 25 games and were a 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Assuming Mountain West Player of the Year David Roddy returns along with star point guard Isaiah Stevens, Colorado State will likely be ranked to start next season.

The team did lose starting center Dischon Thomas to the transfer portal and could use a replacement. Having a Roddy + Lofton frontcourt would be one of the best in college basketball and the Bulldog transfer would still put up massive numbers on what would be a Final Four contender. Not all mid-major transfers that move up will be able to put up big numbers so Colorado State could be a great combo of being a “safe” option while also still having a great chance of making a deep run in March.

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Starting center Drew Timme is entering the NBA Draft and it’s unknown whether he’ll stay or go. Gonzaga will have to have a Plan B and has been involved with a number of mid-major centers, including Aimaq Fardaws and Johni Broome. Lofton is just as good a player as them and probably better offensively.

If the lack of height is a true concern, the WCC certainly wouldn’t be able to expose it and Lofton can be a focal point of the Bulldogs’ offense, as has Timme been the past couple of seasons. And going from a program that can’t get past the CUSA Tournament to one that has made seven straight Sweet 16 appearances is a great selling point for the transfer.
