NCAA Basketball: 10 teams that should target SMU transfer guard Kendric Davis
Texas Longhorns
Although Courtney Ramey has entered the transfer portal, there’s still the unknown fate of Marcus Carr and Andrew Jones in the backcourt for the Longhorns. Both could leave or come back but assuming they’re gone, that leaves Devin Askew and five-star combo guard freshman Alterio Morris, as well as four-star point guard Rowan Brumbaugh.
Davis would be a starter and likely an upgrade over the guards Texas had this past season but the question would be whether or not he fits in Coach Chris Beard’s slow-tempo offensive system. But the chance to play close to home (Houston native) and in the Big 12 can be major selling points, along with being the focal point of an offense that could use someone like Davis.
Texas A&M Aggies
Another in-state option is the Aggies, who’ll be looking for a new starting point guard after Marcus Williams (3.4 apg) entered the transfer portal. They can return just about everyone else, assuming senior guard and leading scorer Quenton Jackson opts to stay one more year.
Davis would certainly be an upgrade over Williams and at point and could be what’s needed to get Texas A&M back to the NCAA Tournament. He’ll help solve the team’s shooting concerns and provide them with a veteran and proven power conference ball-handler, while also showcasing his skills in the SEC, which is a major upgrade over the AAC.
