NCAA Basketball: 10 teams that should target Memphis transfer Emoni Bates
Georgetown Hoyas
One of the reasons why Bates and Memphis didn’t work out is that there were 100 wings on the roster all competing for minutes. Besides Bates, there was Lester Quinones, Earl Timberlake, and Landers Nolley as well. Going somewhere that has little pressure and plenty of playing time for the former five-star recruit could be the ideal move while playing for a staff with NBA experience.
One option that could work is Patrick Ewing and Georgetown, coming off a year where they didn’t win a single Big East game and needs a lot of work to get back to being competitive. Having Bates and Aminu Mohammed on the perimeter would be a great scoring duo and add several wins to the team. If things work out, it would be a great boost to Bates’ reputation, which is fairly low after this past season.
Iowa Hawkeyes
Few offenses in NCAA Basketball have been as potent as the Hawkeyes, who had All-Americans Luka Garza and Keegan Murray leaving the way. It’s a system that has maximized under-the-radar prospects so imagine what head coach Fran McCaffery can do with a five-star caliber talent that always has the tools?
With Keegan Murray and Jordan Bohannon now gone, that leaves a giant hole in the Hawkeyes, even if Kris Murray came back and had a breakout campaign. Bates could come in and be a potential 20 ppg producer in this system and like what’s about to happen to Keegan, can get back to the projected top-10 of the NBA Draft.
