Star NCAA Basketball point guard Tyrese Hunter announced on Monday that he will be leaving the Iowa State program and entering his name into the transfer portal. After averaging 11.0 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 4.9 APG, and 2.0 SPG; he was named the 2022 Big 12 Freshman of the Year.

Starting all 35 games for a team that advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2016, the 6’0” playmaker showed poise and maturity well beyond his years. He carried the Cyclones in their first-round NCAA Tournament win over LSU, finishing with 23 points and connecting on seven 3-pointers.

From day one the Cyclones staff knew they had a special player in Ames, IA. He posted 11 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals in the team’s season opener. His coming-out party occurred in late November during a 19-point, five-steal, four-rebound performance to upset the 25th ranked Xavier Musketeers. In Big 12 play, he had 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 10 assists in a win over Kansas State and then dished out a career-high 13 assists on the road against #3 Baylor.

Hunter is a savvy point guard that could start for just about any program in the country next season. Along with his vision and a gift for completing dazzling passes, he also has an exceptional basketball IQ and high-end athleticism to finish at the rim for a player his size.

The list of schools contacting Hunter will be longer than a roller coaster line at a Six Flags theme park, and for good reason. Here are a few of the destinations that make the most sense for the former ESPN top 40 recruit.
