Ever since Fardaws Aimaq entered his name into the NCAA Basketball transfer portal, it has been in non-stop contact with high major teams. To the casual fan seeing his name being mentioned as much as it is you’d think he was a disgruntled [former] 5-star recruit looking for a new home. Aimaq’s case is different, however. His story is a testament to massive on-court production at Utah Valley and previously utilizing the transfer portal.

Let’s actually talk about the transfer portal.

There are arguments for both sides, good or bad when talking about the transfer portal. Whether you fall on either side of that argument it really doesn’t matter because in reality, the portal has helped many student-athletes find the right fit for them to succeed.

Coaches on one hand are able to migrate to different jobs whenever the opportunity comes about. Before 2021, players did not have that luxury, unfortunately, often forced to sit out a season which may hamper any progress or momentum that had been garnered up to that point.

Transferring has always been a thing but some players may or may not have had their names available in talking circles amongst coaches. This could be due to numerous factors but once the transfer portal was initiated as a nationwide database for student athletes seeking to find a new home, it boomed in popularity. Retention rates year-to-year for the majority of programs have not been the same.

Thanks to the transfer portal casual fans are able to look into different players, seeing what they can add to a prospective team.

With one of the hottest commodities on the transfer portal right now being Aimaq; he has much to offer the remaining five finalists competing for his signature.

Fardaws Aimaq, the top center available in the NCAA transfer portal, tells ESPN he’s narrowed his college options to five:
