As the calendar hits late April and turns to May, the world of college basketball has seen a flurry of activity across all aspects of the sport. From a coaching standpoint, the Miller brothers are back, Jay Wright and Coach K are both gone, and Mike White flips from Florida to Georgia. The list goes on.

From a transfer portal perspective, Kendric Davis won’t be a Mustang, but is staying in the American and is now a Memphis Tiger. Andre Curbelo is back in New York with St. John’s. Nijel Pack is joining Miami after its surprise Elite 8 run. Once again, the list goes on. When it comes to players coming back for next season, none stick out more than the National Player of the Year Oscar Tshiebwe. This offseason has been crazy so far and we’re just three weeks in.

It can be argued that the conference with the most shifting going on in the Big East. Four new head coaches, all with intriguing backstories. The loss of big-time stars combined with the new transfers and recruits coming in. Big East Basketball is set to be extremely competitive once again in the 2022-23 season. With it being late April and the transfer portal still consisting of well over 1,000 players, it’s far too early to know which teams are contenders and which teams are not for next season, but it’s never too early for some predictions.

Will Ed Cooley and Providence repeat as regular-season champions? Or perhaps Villanova continues to be Villanova after all they lost? Maybe another team swoops in for the top spot that’s under the radar? Here are my way too early predictions and power rankings for the Big East Conference in the 2022-23 season.

NOTE: I am only considering players that are fully committed to their respective programs as of April 24. That means for these predictions players such as Justin Lewis and Aminu Mohammed will not be included in their team’s predicted placement as both have declared for the NBA Draft while maintaining eligibility. Even though it’s likely at least one of those players will return, nothing can be said for certain as of now.
