Big East Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2022-23 season
11. Georgetown Hoyas
Projected Lineup
G: Dante Harris (Junior)
G: Denver Anglin (Fresh.)
F: Brandon Murray (Soph.)
F: Collin Holloway (Junior)
F: Ryan Mutombo (Soph.)
Ah, the Hoyas. Patrick Ewing and Co. had, for lack of a better term, an atrocious 2021-22 season. Georgetown went 0-20 in Big East play and is at rock bottom as a program. Surprisingly, the Hoyas had four players average double figures, but two of them have left the program and a third, Aminu Mohammed, is testing the waters in the NBA Draft. If Mohammed doesn’t come back, the Hoyas are going to be in trouble.
Donald Carey and Kaiden Rice are gone. Timofey Ighoefe, Tyler Beard, and Jalin Billingsley have entered the portal. A Mohammed-less Hoyas team may flirt with another winless Big East season unless changes are made, but changes are expected. Coach Ewing has already added LSU transfer and former top 100 guy Brandon Murray and has the commitment of four-star guard Denver Anglin as well. Combine that with what the Hoyas currently have, you’ll get a team that will play their hearts out even if the results aren’t there.
Many believe that Coach Ewing is on thin ice after following up his magical NCAA Tournament berth in 2021 with the dud that was 2022, but he has another opportunity to prove himself.
