Big East Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2022-23 season
4. UConn Huskies
Projected Lineup
G: Tristen Newton (Senior)
G: Nahiem Alleyne (Senior)
G: Jordan Hawkins (Soph.)
G: Andre Jackson (Junior)
F: Adama Sanogo (Junior)
Now entering their third season in the Big East, the UConn Huskies are coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time since 2011 and 2012. Head coach Dan Hurley guided the Huskies to a five-seed, but they were upset in the first round by the 12-seed New Mexico St. Aggies.
The Huskies have lost a lot of contributors from last year’s team. Starting guards RJ Cole and Tyrese Martin are both going pro. Fifth-year seniors Isaiah Whaley and Tyler Polley are done. Jalen Gaffney, Akok Akok, and Rahsool Diggins have all entered the transfer portal.
Despite this, the Huskies are still returning a very solid core and have already made some additions. Adama Sanogo has the potential to be an All-American this season down low and Andre Jackson and Jordan Hawkins on the wings give opponents matchup nightmares. Coach Hurley has also added a pair of solid transfer guards in East Carolina’s Tristen Newton and Virginia Tech’s Nahiem Alleyne and is looking for more.
With Jay Wright and Collin Gillespie departing from Villanova and Providence losing its entire starting lineup, the conference is as wide open as ever, and the Huskies have a great opportunity to jump on that.
