7. 2013-2014

Record: 29-5 (16-2 in Big East) – Sweet 16 appearance

This was the team that started the magical decade-long run for Villanova. It was also the years that Villanova was starting to be the team that had great regular seasons but could never get over the hump in the NCAA tournament. They lost in the third round to the eventual National Champion UConn Huskies but this team also set the foundation for the Villanova National Championship teams.

This team had it all they were extremely efficient on offense, like most Villanova teams and they were finally starting to buy completely in on defense. The issue was this team was just starting to scratch the surface of how good they would be on both ends of the floor.

The Wildcats headed into the Big East tournament as the one seed and with a 28-3 record. They did lose in the first round of the Big East tournament and were given a 2 seed in the East Region of the NCAA tournament. They lost in the first weekend again and played better in the tournament than they had in the past but just ran into the eventual national champion.

This was in no way the best shooting team that Wright has ever had but they were still well above average. They were still taking a ton of three-point attempts as they yet again finished in the top 10 in the country in attempts and were in the top 15 in makes per game.

This team never turned the ball over and likely would have gone much further had they not run into a red-hot UConn team in the NCAA tournament.
