UAB Basketball: Looking at Blazers 2022-23 offseason transfer additions
By Matt Melton
One of the nation’s top mid-majors this past year, UAB Basketball simply enjoyed a phenomenal 2021-22 season in year two under head coach Andy Kennedy. A big reason for this? Their transfer portal additions last offseason.
Looking back now at those additions, the Blazers brought in two double-digit scorers in Jordan Walker and KJ Buffen, as well as three key role players in Jamal Johnson, Josh LeBlanc, and Justin Brown. Five names who played a massive part in UAB Basketball making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2014-15 season, there is no denying the impact that those five had on this Blazers team.
Looking back at the portal however, it’s clear that the Blazers had success a year ago with those additions. If you’ve paid attention to this offseason as well, UAB is certainly doing it again.
Ranking No. 16 in the 247Sports Transfer Rankings (as of Friday, April 29), the Blazers have so far added five names through the portal this offseason, some of which are from the SEC once again. While there is certainly a chance that UAB isn’t done yet in the portal either, the Blazers have certainly cemented themselves with these five to be one of the nation’s top mid-majors once again.
Looking at those five additions so far, who has UAB Basketball added through the transfer portal so far this offseason, and what role could they play for the Blazers in 2022-23?
