Ledarrius Brewer

While Gaines is likely the popular pick to make the biggest impact in 2022-23, and rightfully so, Brewer might actually be the name to watch for from this UAB Basketball transfer class.

An experienced 6-foot-5 guard, Brewer actually began his collegiate career at Southeast Missouri State where he averaged a combined 13.5 PPG during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons before transferring to ETSU. A two-time All-Southern selection across the last two seasons who has averaged 15.3 PPG and 4.9 RPG on 43.6% shooting, Brewer is a player who can do-it-all from the guard position and could very easily start for the Blazers this upcoming season.

The brother of Ledarrius, Brewer is also a player who comes to UAB as an experienced option, one who will likely provide a significant impact in the Blazers’ frontcourt.

Brewer has also spent the last two seasons at ETSU where he has averaged a combined 9.8 PPG and 5.5 RPG (starter last season), while also spending the two years prior to that at Southeastern Louisiana where he averaged a similar stat line. At 6-foot-9, Brewer is a forward who is capable of helping stretch the floor for the Blazers (career 30.9% three-point shooter), and will likely be one of the top options off the bench, if not a starter.

Tyler Bertram

The final transfer addition that the Blazers have made up to this point is Bertram, a 6-foot-4 guard who could play a key reserve role this season in the UAB backcourt.

After beginning his collegiate career in C-USA at Charlotte back in 2019-20, Bertram has spent the last two seasons at Binghamton of the AEC averaging a combined 9.7 PPG on 37.2% shooting from three while starting in 31-of-47 games. A player whose three-point shooting took a jump from 34.8% to 39.1% between his sophomore and junior seasons, Bertram is yet another experienced backcourt option for the Blazers, one who will likely see time at both the one-and-two.
