NCAA Basketball: Updated WTE 2022-23 power rankings after transfer deadline
10. Creighton Bluejays
2021-22 record: 23-12 (12-7 in Big East)
So after making the Sweet 16 with a core of seniors that had to depart last offseason, the question was going to be how long the rebuilding process was going to take for Creighton? Turned out, not long at all. The team made the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 with a roster filled with freshmen that looks primed for breakout campaigns in 2023.
The Bluejays do lose leading scorer Ryan Hawkins, along with sharpshooter Alex O’Connell and backup forward KeyShawn Feazell. But everyone else is coming back, including freshmen guards Ryan Nembhard and Trey Alexander. Then there’s the frontcourt duo of Arthur Kaluma and Ryan Kalkbrenner, who could be a top-10 frontcourt next season, even without Hawkins around. Four-star center prospect Fredrick King has NBA potential and will get backup minutes next season as a freshman.
If the “core 4” takes another step in their respective developments, Creighton can become a preseason favorite to win the Big East next season and make an even bigger run in the NCAA Tournament than the 2021 squad. TCU transfer Francisco Farabello adds more offense in the backcourt and former top-100 Rati Andronikashvili is someone to watch as well.
And if the Bluejays can add a certain high-profile transfer from the Summit League in the next few weeks, then the Final Four could be a realistic goal.
